STORRS, Conn. (October 19, 2009) - Preliminary commitments have been received from two Mansfield businesses planning to relocate to Storrs Center. Campus Cuts, a beauty salon, and Body Language, a tattoo studio, have signed letters of intent for tenant space in the new “Main Street” community. Both businesses are presently located at 1254 Storrs Road. To date, seven letters of intent have been signed for Storrs Center.

Campus Cuts has catered to the Mansfield community for over 30 years. Headed by Val Varga, the beauty salon has a following of local residents and students. Body Language, headed by Rob Lucey, is a destination primarily for UConn students. Lucey expects Storrs Center to provide an opportunity to expand the business, with larger space that accommodates additional artists.

Cynthia van Zelm, Executive Director of the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, states, “We are pleased that the leasing program for Storrs Center is drawing a diverse group of interested tenants. Our goal has been to attract businesses that have a wide appeal: to established Mansfield residents, UConn students and faculty, young families and retirees.”

Macon Toledano, Vice President of Planning and Development for master developer LeylandAlliance, adds, “We welcome the early commitment of Campus Cuts and Body Language. They are established Mansfield businesses that should benefit from the vibrant mix of retailers, service providers, and restaurants that will be a draw for Mansfield and regional residents and visitors.”

Storrs Center will be a mixed-use town center and main street corridor at the crossroads of the town of Mansfield, Connecticut and the University of Connecticut. Located along Storrs Road adjacent to the University, the Town Hall, the regional high school, and the community center, Storrs Center will include a new town square across from the University’s improved fine arts center. The new town center will occupy approximately 17 acres of the overall 47.7 acre site and will include a new Town Square and a smaller Market Square across from Town Hall. The remainder of the site will be preserved primarily for open space and conservation. The town plan will knit architecture, pedestrian-oriented streets, small lanes, and public spaces into a series of small neighborhoods that will make up the new fabric of the town center. Ground floor retail and commercial uses opening onto landscaped sidewalks and intimate streets will reinforce traditional street front activity and shared community spaces and will be supported by residences above and throughout the neighborhood. Storrs Center will combine retail, restaurant, and office uses with a variety of residence types including studios, town homes, condominium apartments and rental apartments. Structured and surface parking will be provided.
