State University Medical Center to Provide Quality Care and Services to Regional Population
August 28, 2012 (Storrs, Connecticut) – Mansfield and its neighbors are home to over 72,000 residents, plus thousands of state employees and university students. This population is considered within the health care world to be in need of additional services – a need that will be fulfilled when the UConn Health Center opens new offices in Storrs next year.
The Health Center’s 18,000 square foot facility will be located at One Royce Circle in the next phase of Storrs Center, the emerging new downtown situated at the crossroads of the Town of Mansfield, Connecticut and the University of Connecticut. The UConn Health Center will provide multi-disciplinary health care services, a world-class staff of medical professionals, and 48 new jobs when its new facility opens in December 2013.
“Storrs Center is creating a brand new main street, and like any town, it needs quality medical care,” explained Maureen McGuire, spokesperson for the UConn Health Center. “UConn Health Center experts will provide state of the art health care services to the regional residents, as well as University students, faculty, staff and families.”
The UConn Health Center is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is entering an era of unprecedented growth in all three areas of its mission: academics, research, and clinical care. In all, the practice includes more than 450 physicians with expertise in more than 50 specialties and forms the region’s largest multispecialty practice. Patients are currently seen on the Farmington campus, as well as satellite offices in West Hartford, East Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, and Southington.
“The Health Center is part of the University of Connecticut and is at the center of Bioscience Connecticut,” said Howard Kaufman, managing member of LeylandAlliance, master developer of Storrs Center. Bioscience Connecticut is a bold plan that will strengthen Connecticut’s position as a national and global leader for bioscience innovation and improve access to quality health care for Connecticut citizens for generations to come. “It is an honor to have such a prestigious health care organization join us as an integral part of the Storrs Center community.”
With the opening of the Storrs Center location in 2013, the UConn Health Center will provide multidisciplinary services including urgent care, orthopedics, cardiology, dermatology, occupational medicine, family medicine, OB/GYN, and psychiatry services. In addition, a radiology suite and lab drawing station will provide convenient services for area residents, students, and workers.
Storrs Center is a new mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented downtown in Mansfield, Connecticut. The downtown features shops, restaurants, services, and apartment homes that are interspersed with a town square and public spaces in a new neighborhood located at the intersection of Storrs Road and the University of Connecticut.
