Head Husky Barber Styling Shop, Connecticut Travel Planners, and Bank of America Sign Leases
April 26, 2012 – Storrs Center continues to grow with three more businesses signing leases to move to Storrs Center when the first phase opens this summer. Head Husky Barber Styling Shop, Connecticut Travel Planners, and Bank of America join a variety of restaurants, services, and offices that will open their doors in Storrs Center, a new mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented downtown under construction in Mansfield, Connecticut. The downtown will have shops, restaurants, services, and apartment homes that are interspersed with a town square and public areas in a new neighborhood located at the intersection of Storrs Road and the University of Connecticut.
Holly Upton, owner of Head Husky Barber Styling Shop, has been styling men’s hair in Storrs since 1984 when she joined George Skora as a barber at Skora’s Barber Styling Shop, a shop that Mr. Skora had opened in 1951. “I heard George was looking for help and stopped by to meet him. I had already accepted another job, but George shook my hand and said he’d see me in two weeks,” relates Ms. Upton. “So I quit my other job and joined Skora’s.” Ms. Upton now owns the barber shop and will be moving to Storrs Center this summer. “I’ve changed the name to Head Husky and now it’s my daughter who works with me,” she says. But the quality service and love for her work remains. “I love what I do and I love my customers!”
“We fulfill dreams,” says Moe Rondeau, co-owner of Connecticut Travel Planners, a travel agency with plans to relocate to Storrs Center. “Our team is very impressed with the future of Mansfield and we look forward to helping scores of people fulfill their travel dreams from our Storrs Center location.” Mr. Rondeau and his family operate four travel agencies under the names of Connecticut Travel Planners (Mansfield and Putnam, Connecticut) and Travel Advisors International (Lincoln, Rhode Island and Tampa, Florida). The company is a franchisee with Travel Leaders, one of the largest travel companies in North America and offers full service vacation and business travel planning. “We have many corporate and vacation clients from across the United States. Our best asset is our staff and we’re excited to provide a high quality of customer service to our Mansfield customers. A new office and a new downtown – this is a win-win for everyone!”
Bank of America will install an automated teller machine in Storrs Center, making it easy for visitors and residents of Storrs Center to make deposits and withdrawals. With thousands of people expected to visit Storrs Center each year to dine, shop, frequent service businesses, and enjoy events, the convenience of automated banking is essential to have in the new downtown.
“Construction of Phase I of Storrs Center is well underway and the first operators will open over the coming months,” said Howard Kaufman, Managing Member of LeylandAlliance LLC, the parent company of developer Storrs Center Alliance. “We are making excellent progress in leasing for the next phase of development and its opening is scheduled to follow in August 2013. We’re planning now for a wonderful community celebration later this year. It’s exciting to see the downtown come to fruition!”
